Girl Power

Poor Juna. I could tell she regretted her decision to plant herself in the middle of an intense dress-up session here at CraftSanity headquarters. I came home early from work to relieve my very sick husband (He’s got what I had last week.), and got to spend a rare mid-week afternoon at home with the girls. And, of course, I took a lot of pictures. If you read my Monday post, you know all about my shutterbug tendencies. The cool thing is that my kids are so used to me snapping pictures that they don’t stop doing what they’re doing and turn into little hams when they see me reach for the camera. They just keep doing their thing.

Juna, on the other hand, looked right into the camera lens, pleading with her big brown eyes for me to free her from her dress-up hell.

I couldn’t help but chuckle when Amelia draped a third boa across our poor dog who was already wearing a handwoven blanket, small quilt and polar fleece scarf, leaned in and said: “Juna, you’re like a pretty princess.”

Talk about adding insult to injury. I could tell our big fierce Juna was feeling more like a pink poodle and intervened when Abby made a move toward her with a plastic crown.

After watching today’s extended dress-up session, I have to say that Juna must totally loves the girls. She’s a stinker of a dog who got kicked out of her obedience training class as a pup, so it’s almost unfathomable for me to witness her letting two little girls dress her up like a princess. That has to be love, right?

After about 15 minutes and countless “princess” layers, Juna finally got up and shook off the frills only to park herself under the kitchen table next to the chair Amelia was swinging her feet from while coloring in a new sketchbook.

This evening’s adventure was assembling the John Deere tractor wagon I received as a shower gift more than four years ago when I was pregnant with Abby. I’m not sure why I left it in the box so long, or what possessed me to tackle this assembly with 2- and 3-year-old assistants and a sick husband napping upstairs, but it went surprisingly well. Abby helped hold pieces in place while I tightened bolts and Amelia shuffled parts around in a slightly less helpful way. : ) We still have to pump up the tires, but the wagon’s together and beautiful and we did it without needing help from a boy. And that’s pretty cool.

Here’s today’s embroidery progress:

It’s another Abby original. In case you’re wondering about the eyes. She said one is closed. : )

P.S. The big post about the “For the Love of Letter’s” winners has been delayed but not forgotten. As soon and my husband regains his strength, I’ll ask him to help me make the letter pdfs that I’m clueless about. Thanks for your patience on this.
