Now What? One Project Ends and Another Begins

by jennifer

I dropped off the hexagon quilts at the charity today, which means my Road Warrior commitments are officially complete. Phew.

So now that my load is lighter, I’m focusing in on new goals. I’m ramping up loom production and working on publishing a new CraftSanity magazine. Creating a magazine is just as challenging as I expected, but I’m plugging away enjoying the slow climb up the side of a very tall mountain. I’m learning the print shop lingo and crunching numbers a lot.

Today I sent out the first wave of advertising pitches and I believe the stars will align. I don’t have a sales bone in my body, so this part of the project is the most difficult for me. Fortunately, this project is personal, so I don’t have to “sell” it. I believe in it to my core, so I’m just putting it out there in a very low pressure way and trusting that the right people will come along and join me on this journey. I have no idea what exactly is going to happen next and I find that quite exhilarating.

Here’s what I know for sure:

The first issue of the CraftSanity magazine is set to launch next month. It will be distributed in a small print  run (500 to 1,000 copies) and to a broader online audience in a pdf format that will link readers directly to advertiser websites. I’m marketing the publication to my existing global CraftSanity podcast and blog audience and beyond. The print publication is going to be 8×8 inches square, the pdf version will be formatted for reading on computer and iPad screens. It will contain articles, interviews, project tutorials, a gift guide, recipes and more.

The theme is Winter and I’m going for a cozy feel. So you can expect to see sewing, quilting, embroidery, crochet, knitting and more. (Of course, if I don’t sell enough ads my grand plan is obviously subject to change. Just saying.)

If you want to advertise, submit a product for review, or be part of this new CraftSanity adventure in some other way, contact me.

This could be awesome. : )

P.S. Speaking of awesome adventures… if you live in West Michigan and are up for a fantastic physical challenge of mind, body and spirit, you should consider applying for the 2011 Fifth Third River Bank Run 25K Road Warrior Team. I was on the team last year and had a blast. It’s a life-changing experience and so worth all the hard work. Read more about the training program here and apply online for a chance to make the team. The deadline to apply is Oct. 18. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Hey Tami . oh I wonder if in that part of NY, like my woods in NJ.. you didnt also run into exmaples of pollution and encroaching urban development; shopping carts, the occasional oil barrell, plastic bags, and questionable river water?

. When I was around 15 years old I would get this urge every day to run away from the suburbs and go live an interesting life, but I ended up in college 10 minutes away from my house. I’m about to graduate and, save for having about 13K in debt, I’m about to be in a position to hit the road for a couple of years and live like I’ve always wanted. Your posts have kept my dreams at the forefront of my mind, so thanks for the affirmations, they’ve helped tremendously.

, STFU or else. One of the Occupiers was dragged away in a headlock by someone not in uniform and didn't identify himself as police or U of D security. Presumably, he had power of arrest and wasn't just some D or R party goon. Who knows? So would the patriot in the headlock be within his rights to defend himself; risking a charge of assaulting a P.O. ?Either, way it was ugly. Seemed like a mugging to me. I suppose in any other circumstance it would be. What does it say about the government's legitimacy when it relies on force and secrecy to deal with voters? The "debate" was empty. Mostly an agreement frenzy.

If you collected all of the crazy people whose names are being bandied about as Obama’s Energy Secretary, you would have enough patients to start an asylum. I don’t think that Barak Obama is going to turn the Department of Energy into a madhouse.

I’m not sure why but this web site is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a issue on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
