Halloween is coming up fast and this time I’m prepared days ahead of time.
Inspired by my 11-year-old daughter’s favorite video game – Nintendo’s ink splattering Splatoon – I made this Squid Scarf for her to sport as part of her inkling costume. (Inklings are the squid creatures who splatter paint around in the game.) A winter hood, scarf, mitten combo, this scarf is just as fun to sport at the bus stop as it can be to wear while gaming or hanging out with fellow cosplayers.
It has become a CraftSanity tradition to make hats for halloween costumes that can continue to be worn through the cold Michigan winters.
Pressed for time and looking to create something warm and fun to wear, I decided not to try to create an exact replica of the inkling hair depicted in the video game. Instead, I focused on designing something that could be made the night before Halloween or a cosplay event. While I don’t necessarily recommend deadline crafting to others, it’s one of my specialties and this pattern was created with deadlines in mind. You can purchase the PDF pattern in the CraftSanity Etsy shop. Let me know if you’re interested in a finished Squid Scarf. I’m selling off some of my photo samples. : )
And now that ArtPrize is over, Jon, the CraftSanity multimedia editor and I, are back to recording video tutorials. You can watch the one we recorded about the squid scarf below.
