CraftSanity On TV: An Egg Cozy Tutorial

by jennifer

Happy Spring, everyone! It’s snowing here in West Michigan. And waking up to a blanket of white was a crushing blow after we were spoiled by nearly a week of sunny, spring weather. Ah, well, those of us who live in Michigan are used to this kind of teasing by Mother Nature. We often complain about it, but we know how to cope.

Today is the official kick off of spring and in the spirit of spring holiday tradition, I bring you a tutorial for making cute little egg cozies. These are super easy to make and can be customized countless ways, so have at it. You can download my old school handwritten tutorial pdf complete with templates here. I experimented with both felt and polar fleece, but you can use recycled wool sweaters, roving, yarn and so much more.

We’re going to display our cozies during Easter, but that’s only the beginning. My daughters and I have plans to whip up more cozies for all seasons. Monster, dog, cat and flower themed cozies are on tap. This is a great project for beginning sewers.

Find more egg cozy inspiration on Flickr. And if you like to crochet, check out this granny square tutorial and this bunny ear cozy. I love this knitted bunny cozy, too.

Below you’ll find a clip of the speedy egg cozy demo I did on Take Five yesterday. Let me know if you have any questions or cozy-making tips to pass on. Feel free to link to your creations below.
