ArtPrize 2010 Video Interview: One Artist’s Dream Collection
I’m a dreamer, canner and collector of bits, bobs and trinkets, so I was delighted to happen upon Heather Holloman’s “Dream Collection” on exhibit at The Grand Rapids Public Museum here in West Michigan. To create her ArtPrize entry, she asked people what they dream about at night then she searched for artifacts to illustrate each dream.

The artifacts are submerged in 378 water-filled canning jars labeled with tags explaining each dream. The jars are lined up neatly on shelves. The result is a clever and interactive piece. And when the sunlight hits the jars just right they look quite lovely.
Holloman was standing by her entry when I happened upon it last week. We had a nice chat and I shot a short video so you can learn more about her installation, too. Enjoy!
What do you dream about?
In the coming days I will be posting photos of the ArtPrize entries that captivate me in random order. ArtPrize is the international art competition held in Grand Rapids, Mich. More than 1,700 artists (myself included) have entered and attendees vote to decide who goes home with the $250,000 top prize.

This reminds me of Roald Dahl’s “BFG.” My younger daughter loved that book.

Not including your entry, these dreams are my favourite so far.
Such a great idea. I’m inspired to do some thing similar with my children…kind of dream snow globes.
