CraftSanity Episode 92: A Conversation With Fashion Designer Daniel Vosovic, ‘Project Runway’ Finalist and Author of ‘Fashion Inside Out’

Daniel Vosovic
Before he moved to New York City, landed a spot on “Project Runway” Season 2 and got all famous, Daniel Vosovic spent his formative years growing up in West Michigan were I now live.

But I didn’t know him then. I just met him in November when he was home for a book signing. Before he signed copies of his impressive book, “Fashion Inside Out: Daniel V’s Guide to How Style Happens From Inspiration to Runway and Beyond” he gave a short talk and I was struck by his ability to tell his story in an engaging way. That’s when I knew he would be a fantastic podcast guest. And let me tell you he did not disappoint.

Whether you’re a stylin’ fashionista or someone who wears aprons as outerwear like me, there’s something for everyone on this episode of CraftSanity. Daniel, who is wise beyond his 27 years, shares the story of what it’s been like to build a name for himself leaving West Michigan, becoming a reality TV star, budding designer and businessman. Tune in for some inspiration to push you toward your dream career.

I was walking down the street yesterday, and I was day-dreaming of a wonderful summer dress of layers and layers of thin, hand-dyed cotton. And I could screenprint on it, too. Yum!

– So I want to win that book! :-)

Daniel, you are so fabulous. I think you should have won, which is not to take away from anyone else. Besides being a hottie (I say this as a bi female, so I know) (although there are other people who know, also, even though they aren’t bi), you are also quite erudite and articulate. So, there.

I forgot the question…

Oh, yeah! My dream is to learn the art of art journaling and to produce a library of quality art journals. This is my first year of dedication to art journaling, after a few years of a variety of multi-media crafting and art. I want to be a design maven in the journaling world.

Other than that, humility is my middle name.

Thanks to you both, for an inspiring and informative podcast!

This was one of my favorite interviews by far! By listening, I’d think you two were old friends. I’m a huge fan of PR, but unfortunately, a little late tuning in as I missed Season 2. It sounds like Daniel is extremely talented. I may have to do what Jennifer did and watch the DVDs!

My dream is to one day work for me, myself, and I! I would love to have a quaint little monogramming shop in a small town with fun personalized gifts, stationery, and random pieces of local art…

What a great and inspiring interview with Daniel!

Daniel was my favorite designer from that season! Thanks for this episode.

One of my goals before I have kids is to sell some of my personally designed, fabric purses to strangers (meaning not just to family/friends who would support me whether they like it or not). That is how I would design my destiny.

I really enjoyed your interview with Daniel and would love to enter to win his book.

My dream is fairly local – I’d like to open a studio/yarn store where knitters, weavers and fiber enthusiasts could come and work together during the day. I really feel there is a sort of synergy that happens when like minded people get together and work – even if they are working on different projects. Everyone influences each other, and I’d like to facilitate that in a warm, open and inviting environment.

Thanks for your consideration,
Chris (Happygirl)

I’m already a published poet, writer and journalist; artist with work in galleries; and I had my own TV show on the arts on cable for many years (little pay but lots of creative freedom), where I taught myself to also create videos for which I’ve won awards. But I always wanted to learn how to sew and I’ve had a flair for fashion (I do Ukrainian and other embroidery and hand-sew), so designing my own clothing would be my next dream (one that at least generates more money than the other endeavors I’ve chosen!).

Comment from Kristina Michelle

My dream is to be great. I don’t mean that in a selfish way – I really don’t. I just want to make a difference with what I do. I want to affect people in a positive way. I want to make my mark. I want to be all that I can be. So, I think the best way I can describe it is to say that I want to be great. The greatest.

last night I was acrually dreaming dreaming I was designing a clothing collection – I am not a designer and have never been one – the one outfit I recall had a yellow and white printed sheer layered skirt with a more structured yellow jacket with significant notched lapels and it was low cut on the runway – in real life the wearer would have something underneath – it was lovely!!! funny I should come across this contest today!!!!
