A Dining Room Preservation Plan: Clean Up The Crafts Daily
Even though I have designated craft space in my home, it never fails that I end up at the dining room table. Apparently, I like to be where the action is and create in the midst my family. This is nothing new. I’ve been junking up the dining room table for years. The difference is now I’m making it a habit to clean up every night no matter how tired I am. And let me just say how nice it is to wake up and see an empty table every morning. I hope to keep this practice going. It’s only been four glorious days. : )
How do you motivate yourself to clean up your nest?

I too craft at the dining room table. I have no choice but to clean up, you see, I have a daughter with “sticky fingers” so if I don’t clean up my supplies go missing!

This is such a good habit -the daily clean-up. We have a rule that nothing can be left on the coffee table overnight. I totally agree that it is so nice to come downstairs in the morning to a tidy space!

I tend to turn my dining room table into a craft table too. I have a perfectly good cutting table in my office. My motivation? My two boys. If I don’t put the stuff away. Rest assured they will get a hold of it and either break it. color with it. hide it etc.

I have a separate space in the flat to create but do still try to tidy every couple of days. I am using the same resolution for dishes! And I agree, it is such a joy to make breakfast in a clean and tidy kitchen :)

Yep, it’s the same with me. Big table upstairs in the sewing room, yet the table in the breakfast nook holds a sewing machine, a serger, assorted chunks of felt, needles, embroidery floss, scissors, and on and on and on. My excuses: the light is better in there, it’s warmer in there, plus it’s closer to all the action around here! But you are so right, it’s a new year . . . so table junker uppers of the world unite . . . as Mom used to say “a place for everything and everything in it’s place.”
Cheers!

I had a craft room that lasted 2 months when my daughters decided they could no longer room with each other and we had to put the littlest back in her room. As much as I miss the room I do not miss the constant fighting. So back to the dinner table all mine and the kids crafts go. The table gets cleared but only into piles on the floor or shelf in order to get dinner on the table, fast. About after a week of not finding things it all gets reorganized. It is about do after all the Christmas crafty things and a two week vacation for the kids.

I read a snatch of a decluttering or organizing book off the shelf. This is good for inspiration to get a lot done. Still looking for the daily motivation maintenence to kick in. :>

It never fails, the bigger the mess, the more unexpected the guest.
