I Interrupt This Podcast… To Make Some Art of My Own

septprogress.jpg

It seems I’m always on some kind of deadline. Today I’m on a column deadline and a self-imposed art quilt deadline. While it seems ridiculous to suggest I have to finish a small quilt this month in the midst of everything else, that’s exactly what I’m doing. I spent the evening working on my quilt for the Posted Stitches monthly art challenge I’m working on with a Bev in Australia.

So even though I should have been working on other things – including the audio for my next podcast – and I know I will be tired tomorrow, I also know it’s all totally worth it. This evening I got lost standing at the ironing board (my makeshift workbench) in my dining room, working on a project of my own and it made me very happy. :  )

If you’ve never gotten lost standing at an ironing board in your dining room, I highly recommend it. Wonderful and surprising things can happen when you treat yourself to a few hours of creative time.

For those who are local… Read on for the scoop on this week’s craft happenings…

The next Craft Club is meeting  at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the Consumers room at the YMCA. This will be the usual come as you are, work on whatever you want sort of gathering. So bring a project and join us if you can.  Those who want to work on the Community Quilt project are welcome to do so. I will bring my sewing machine and have the fabric out  for those who want to work on the quilts. Be sure to bring show & tell, so we can see what you’ve been working on.

The Community Quilt Bee is scheduled to meet Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m October 12 at the David D. Hunting YMCA, 475 Lake Michigan Drive NW. Please let me know if you plan to attend. We have a couple large quilts underway, and I was thinking that some of us could get some doll quilts started to donate to the Santa Claus Girls. These require little fabric and work up quickly.

And I’m excited to check out the Quilts On the Grand 2008, West Michigan Quilter’s Guild show this weekend. It’s going to be a special treat because I’ve been asked to be a “celebrity” judge. I’m not a celebrity, but I’m super excited to go pick a winner. If I’m feeling brave I might even have Abby and Amelia along for the ride.

Here are the details:

When: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday
Where: DeltaPlex, 2500 Turner Ave. NW, Grand Rapids
Cost: $7

Okay, I gotta get back to work…

Looks beautiful – looking forward to seeing it!

Funny, I hate and basically don’t iron, but when it come to ironing fabric for projects, I can get lost standing at my ironing board!

I’m like Knitterella. The other day when I told my husband I needed an ironing board he scoffed “What for?” When I said for my fabrics he just rolled his eyes at me!

Before I head off to check out Posted Stitches I wanted to let you know that I haven’t forgotten about sending off your maganet I just am without a car at the present moment. I should have it back by the end of the week.

I know that wonderful lost in time feeling. It’s great! I have an Ikea coffee table we hacked into a worktable for me with TALL red legs. Plus I have the drawers for the x-acto so I don’t stab myself any more.

Bev is going to be the recipient of my Pay It Forward and it makes me feel the world is nicely small when I read her, listen to you and am connected in that way to both of you.
